Canada Day, Banff

Canada Day rolls around again on Friday, I can’t believe where the years go!.

This newsletter I try to bring you some Canadiana, to honour Canada Day.

Canada came into being by Confederation in 1867. Next year is the celebration of 150 years since Confederation, (The 150th anniversary of something is called the sesquicentennial). This year, in anticipation of that anniversary, we brought in a range of jewellery that uses centenial pennies, from 1967. So I thought I would show you some of that penny jewellery. These are all hand made and therefore will vary a bit from piece to piece. I think that it is a lovely idea, and has proved very popular so far.

Canadians, particularly in this part of the world, are an active bunch.

I thought this time I would show items related to an activity popular the world over – fishing. A quote I like (from an article from CBS) is “fishing is a pretty good excuse not to do much, which is really what summer should be about”.

Banff Avenue hosts a pretty impressive Canada Day parade. I really enjoy watching the marching bands. I thought it would be neat to show you some archive photos of the Avenue over the years.
